This decorative circular mirror was owned by George Eliot.
Eliot was reluctant to have her photograph taken as she was self-conscious about her appearance and so this is one of only a few photographs that exist
From 1849 to 1850 George Eliot stayed with the Durade family in their home in Geneva, Switzerland
