Reticule owned by George Eliot.

This reticule belonged to George Eliot and consists of a buttonhook, a file, a penknife and a crochet hook, all with mother of pearl handles. There is also a thimble, a bodkin and a pair of scissors. Needlework was a part of most women’s lives during the time Eliot lived. There are a number of items in the collection which were made or decorated by Eliot demonstrating her needlework skills.
