Dante by Sir Frederick Burton, in original frame. Burton gave this watercolour to George Henry Lewes and George Eliot in 1865 while Burton was drawing her portrait. Unlike previous portraits both Eliot and Lewes liked Burton’s portrait. The portrait is now in the collection of the National Portrait Gallery.
