This chair is thought to be from ‘The Elms’ Vicarage Street School which George Eliot attended from 1828-1832. It was one of the best schools in Nuneaton at that time. Here she became good friends with one of the teachers, the deeply religious Miss Lewis who encouraged her intellectual development.
