First editions of George Eliot’s books

  • Description
  • Comments

The library has many first editions of Eliot’s works published by Blackwood, her publisher and editions published by other companies including versions produced abroad. There are also examples of some edited for children. Many have their original bindings, some with illustrations on the covers whilst others have been bound to the owner’s requirements to fit alongside other books on their shelves. Illustrated inside with a variety of engravings or paintings, the styles often reflect the different artistic movements of the time.
